This year for mama's day, I was one lucky, spoiled mama! My babes gave me wonderful handmade cards and gifts, my honey gave me this beautiful felted maiden (by Nushkie) and my parents gave me this lovely nightgown and robe.
The robe and nightgown are a bit of a tradition; my grandmother (Mema) used to give them to my mama (Mimi) each mother's day.
I have a bit of an issue with most nightgowns though, having something to do with that strap in the lower left corner of the picture. The straps are always too long! It seems silly, but the straps have kept me from purchasing countless pajamas and other tops. I decided that there was no reason why I could not fix this. After all, I was not about to break the nightgown/robe tradition!
It was super easy to cut the strap where it was sewn to the adjustable part of the nightgown strap. Once I had the correct length, I used a needle and thread to hand stitch the cloth part of the nightgown strap back around the ring on the adjustable side of the strap.
This was such a simple project, I don't know why I had not thought of doing it earlier! It is amazing how little adjustments can make such a big difference! This nightgown is so much more comfortable now that I don't have to worry that I might be hanging out of it...and I think it looks pretty darn good too!
Great idea! --I'm going to try it on my bra straps.

I love the felt maiden too. John has good taste! I hate it when a top I get has straps that are too long. This is especially a problem in pj's for me.

You SO can sew a button! You'd be amazed what you can do with a needle and some thread!

I must confess, sometimes daddy has a little help with these things! The maiden came from www.nushkie.etsy.com She is also the artist who made Tobin's tooth fairy that is on the nature table...
She is so amazing! We've had great 'covo's' and when I said that the maiden was going to be a Mama's day gift, she, without mentioning it, added the sweet little babe in her arms!!!
So although I had a hand in the gift, it really was a surprise!!
