I am usually amazed at what can be created from even the smallest, or most random pieces of fabrics. I have mentioned in other posts that I usually bargain shop for fabrics at local stores and on websites and will only occasionally purchase more designer fabrics online...and in small quantities! Remember this piece of fabric? This was a random piece that I picked up for $1 at the town wide yard sale last month. I did have a vision for this fabric when I purchased it, and recently, I was able to pull it together.
Even better than bargain shopping or yard sale-ing for fabrics is reusing fabrics that you may have around your home. The blue velvet-esque drapes in the photo above had already been hemmed at an earlier time to serve as a cover for our son's closet, which was an odd shape and did not have a door on it when we moved in. Since we rennovated our home, I have not had a use for these, but have held onto them just incase a random project such as this should pop up. These drapes made a great backing for this table runner!
I think it looks pretty nice! I am trying to chip away at little projects that I have been wanting to do so I can devote the next month to my little Etsy shop. I am so pleased with this runner!
What do you have kicking around your home that you can give new life by making it a part of something new?
a.
You inspired me ... as usual! The girls were playing around with flashlights the other day so I sent them into Natalie's closet to enjoy the dark where there was plenty of room for two. They had so much fun that I decided to reorganize her closet to section off the back part under the stairs to be a bit of a "hideout". Then I remembered Elisabeth's old curtains up in a bag in the attic. We made them into a set of curtains to close off the hideout and into a huge pillow (stuffed with those annoying packing peanuts that have been sitting in a box in my dining for two months) to cover the entire floor area. It is wonderful. Thanks for the idea!
