I have to say that I was moved by the thoughtfulness and the creativity of the gifts that our friends and family chose for Sophia for her birthday. Our friends knew exactly what we would love for her to have and other friends completely raised the bar with handmade gifts, such as the handmade apron/ cookie cutter gift set and the gift I wanted to show here. A dear friend of mine made Sophia this wonderful birthday gift and I just had to share it! This is our tiny family!
It is easy to see that a great deal of time and care went into making this little family. I still can't get over the attention to deatil, especially with all of the tattoo work that she managed to include on the dolls of me and my husband!
I am trying to convince this talented friend of mine to open and Etsy shop with the other nesting dolls she has made and perhaps at some point she would do custom family dolls like this set. I'll keep you posted on what happens there!
My last thought is this...I love giving a gift and will usually try to give something that the giftee will enjoy, but that also goes with my personality as well...for kids, it will usually be something wooden. With the econmoy the way it is, if I do not know what to buy, I will happily buy a gift card so that the parent and giftee can choose what items they would like for themselves. More than anything, I like to know that money is being spent on something that was truly wanted and will not be something will land in the back of a closet! I think that handmade gifts are very lovely and if you have a talent, please, by all means, share it with others through the gifts that you give! Not only will you be giving the time and care that you put into the gift, but you will also be giving the child giftee the opportunity to develop an appreciation for fine, handcrafted items that do not come with cardboard boxes with millions of plastic "twistees" all over them!

The pics turned out so nice! I agree with wholeheatedly you on the dreaded "twistees" point. Conjured up by some evil mastermind, if you ask me...

Having seen these dolls firsthand I can tell you they are so unbelievably beautiful, detailed and special. What a wonderful talent and wonderful gift! And please convince your lovely friend to open a shop ... I promise to be her first customer!
