Hello friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We sure did enjoy ourselves and I am pleased to say that we really made the most of the holiday!
Anticipating seeing the first "back to school shopping commercial" on television, I was suddenly flooded with the feeling that the summer was passing by too fast. So I decided I would take a vacation! For the first time this entire summer, we had absolutely nothing on the calendar for this week, so I am giving the week entirely to my children. My intention is to say Yes, to every suggestion that my kiddos have: beach? sure. painting? no problem. spray ground? hop in the car, let's go!
There are so many fun things that we enjoy doing that are often only plugged in "here and there" around other commitments and responsibilities. As much as I dislike saying no to my kiddos when they ask me to do something, I know I need to maintain some balance, reserving some energy to make dinner, give baths, then maybe after my kiddo's head off to sleep, try to get something done for myself. And the truth is, that we do say yes most of the time, but the feeling of still trying to get it all done, feeling spread slightly too thin, still lingers.
So this vacation is as much about me as it is about them. The computer and tv is staying off in favor of nights spent outside by the fire reading stories and toasting marshmallows. The laundry is going to pile up, the sewing machine is going away, and we have easy grilled meals and takeout lined up for dinners! I can't wait to see what adventures we will encounter this week! Plus, the timing could not be better. I have some projects planned and some supplies that will be shipped to me this week, so I am sure I'll have plenty of exciting things to catch you all up on next monday!
Have a great week!

Fabulous (as ever), you've totally inspired me. You're right, this is summer! I love the idea of holidaying locally/at home. The best especially when you have small children who need to be in their own bed at night.
Your great pictures have inspired me to change my mental attitude and enjoy the summer break more. Thanks!

Hey!
You must have guessed that I could not stay off of the computer completely! But I've done a *pretty good job* of it!
Today we are finally taking the day off from being at the beach, after 3 days straight. Boy, I'm whooped! I'm much more of a fall/ winter person, so being sweaty, sandy and hot lugging around tons of stuff and children (alone!) can make my eye tic sometimes. *But we are having fun*...and I have never slept better in my life! I grew up on the beach an have such fond memories of the summer that I wanted to pass on to my kids, so far so good!
It is amazing how the smallest things, eating outside and haivng ice cream cones handy for dessert can turn an ordinary day into a magical ones for little ones! Sprinkles are good too!
Enjoy the week! Any plans for things to do that are close by?

Sounds wonderful!
We are planning a decadent trip to Rhode Island {possibly} in the fall and I need to find some water to sit by, listen to, and wade in!
Enjoy and can't wait to see you on the other side!
:)
