Do you recall the large box of tulle I had photograped a couple of weeks ago? Well, over the last few weeks, I have been working at finishing up the projects I set out to complete for the craft show that is comming up next saturday. You see, the whole idea to begin a blogg or open an Etsy shop came from the compliments I would receive from friends and strangers in regards to the items I would make for my little ones. When my friend asked me if I was interested in sharing a table at the craft show with her, I felt that the thing to do was to stick with what I knew best: making things for my kiddos, and what better place to start than with the tutu!
I remember seeing a photograph of little girls playing about, wearing tutus, in a Chasing Firefly's catalogue some time ago now. I just had to have one for my little girl... hello, but not at $50! I was certain I could figure out a way to make tutus on my own, so I began experimenting. I begin with a piece of elastic, sewn into a circle, and 3 rolls of 6" tulle {yes, that is alot!} If there is one bit of advice I can give, it is this: if you jsut throw one of these tutus together, it is going to look like it was just thrown together. However, with attention and many little adjustments, your custom tutu will look better than anything that could be found in a store! Recently, I began adding a stitch to the top of the waistband, {after the tulle is folded and knotted onto the elastic}. This little stitch holds everything perfecly in place, while still allowing for stretch in the elastic. As I final touch, one could add any number of embellishments, or leave the tutu plain; either way, I think they are beautiful!
I love making things for my babes that encourage creativity and imagination in their play. I feel that every little girl should have a tutu to play in; it is truly magical seeing their faces light up as they twirl and play in them, becomming fairies, princesses, or ballerinas... I love it that the tutu that I made for my daughter last year to be Tinkerbell has not been outgrown as many other costumes are, and is still worn and played with today. My goal has been to make quality items that parents can purchase for their little one's or as gifts at a reasonable price. I am planning to have these tutus on my Etsy shop and will gladly be making custom orders for Halloween costumes. Friends, these are not exceedingly difficult to make, just note that they do take time and attention to come out looking their best! I am hopeful that these tuts find their way into the homes of people who will enjoy them as much as we have!

Want...need...must have...I only have boy children but I'm pretty sure I could persuade my eldest to engage in tutu action. Can't wait to see your shop if this is the quality you make, they are stunning, absolutely amazing. The patience you have! The colours are beautiful, any little girl (or mummy) would be thrilled with one of these. You are going to sell out at the craft show!

I am in big trouble sharing a table with you ... I am going to spend everything I make buying these (and the wands)!

I'm super happy with these, especially with all of the extra stitching. I'm almost sad to have to pack them up tomorrow for the fair, they look so nice all lined up and fluffy! : )
