This weekend we celebrated the birthday of a very special man, my husband John. John is a man who is loving, fun, so talented, handsome; but more than anything is so selfless and is always thinking about our family first. I know that he would never expect anything big, but we wanted to do something special all the same.
When I think about our relationship, I think of the short story, The Gift of the Magi,by O. Henry (Willian Sydney Porter), where the husband in the story sells his most prized pocket watch to buy his wife a beautiful comb for her long, long hair. Without his knowing it, his wife had cut her hair off and sold it so that she could obtain the means to buy her husband a new chain for his pocket watch. Imagine their surprise when they exhanged their gifts! Neither of them could use these gifts, as they had both given up what was most precious to them to be able to give to the person they loved. Their love for each other was more important than any material item...
For me, I know I would love to be able to give John anything he could possibly imagine or want. If I asked him, he would tell me that I have already given him more than he ever imagined he would have. Although not quite our plan, we enjoyed a nice lunch out and Daddy just loved his gifts that his little ones made for him. We spent the remainder of this hot summer day having fun the best way we know how to...just add water! I know that for him, the real gift on this day was that we were all together. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful person to share forever with. I am looking foward to many more birthday celebrations!
Happy birthday, honey!

You should! It is a great way to stay cool...plus I like being able to direct it toward my plants so the water does not go to waste!
