By now, you all know that autumn is my favourite time of the year. I'm not sure if it is from my school days and the feeling that the {school} year is starting off fresh and new? Or is the fall more like dessert? The "icing on the cake", with all kind of new and exciting things happening and holidays to celebrate? Either way, for me this is the season of clean notebooks, freshly sharpened pencils, and new shoes. However, I need to note that this year, my need to prepare for the closure of summer and the begining of autumn is magnified by the desire to "nest" that comes along with pregnancy.
My list making has been at an all time high, begining with one large list of the things I would like to accomplish this month, then narrowed down into categories by room, and then sub categorized into what needs to be purchased for each room, and what needs to be done in each room. Yeah, you don't have to say it, I know... At the top of my list was the bathroom. Some of the things to do include painting the trim, changing shower curtain liners, and washing and ironing the two shower curtains that we have hung on the bowed curtain rod...I think this is the job I dread most of all. Not that I needed anything else to complicate life, what, with a craft show to prepare for in just a week, but I am happy to say that the shower curtain work is complete! It is amazing what can be accomplished during nap time. For my big boy, I keep some crafts handy in the closet for him to work on during these quieter times. I think it is important for him to see and be aware of some of the work that goes into keeping up a home, and perhaps it will help him to be more intrinsically appreciative of the things that he has?
I am especially excited because for the first time in a little too long, I have all new towels! This was on my to purchase list along with a new bath matt. Towels are the kinds of things that are not usually super fun to spend money on, but are so nice to have once you have bought them! Having things that are new, even though they are slightly boring, along with putting a little "elbow grease" into a space in my home really helps me to feel organized and "on the ball". The physical act of being able to cross an item off of your list that you have accomplished feels amazingly good! I feel energized, as opposed to feeling drained by walking into a room that needs to be cleaned. I think that this is why people tend to nest in the fall before returning to school and regular activities, or before having a baby. There will be enough happening that can feel slightly overwhelming at times, with schedual changes and, hello, another tiny person to love and care for! It may seem a little nutty, but I know that the more I can accomplish now, the more simple my life will be later. As I said, the autumn is my favourite time of the year, and I am happy to do whatever I can now so that I can fully experience and enjoy all of what is to come over the next several months!
Have a wonderful weekend and happy list making!

Autumn is my favourite time of year too; time to reap the harvest and bask in the warm, but not too warm sunshine and enjoy the abundance before winter. The crisper mornings, the evenings that smell like woodsmoke and earth, a transition into something new. Love it.
And a stack of new, fresh, soft towels? Bliss. Happy nesting mama : )

Um...I think I'd do well to just copy and paste your post into my blog! LOL! MY favourite season is Autumn, and I LOVE marking things off on lists, and I list the same way you do-in a micro-managey type of way (you get to cross things off more often that way)!
Can't WAIT to nest in my new home!
You know, when I was preggers, xmas was the BEST!!! People would always make me food and cookies and everywhere I went there was a feast! I couldn't cook/bake ANYTHING when I was pregnant! It just came to me that you'll get to enjoy that this year too! And MAYBE I will again too.....maaaayyyyybeeeee...

Remember, through the camera, you can really focus on the good parts...the other shelves are still being worked on!

YES, I love crossing things off the list!! I live for it!
When I was moving and when we did construction, I kept a notebook of ideas, paint swatces for each room, things to buy, it was really fun, having things listed helped me to envision the space and kept me pretty organized~
Ooooh, I love having pregnant friends to share the experience with : ) I host a cookie swap each year...it actually turns into more of a wine tasting fest, but all of us DO make cookies! I usually opt for something else, cookies are not my forte, so I'd love anything people want to send my way!

We are comming upon a real hot spell here in NJ...sometimes I wish we lived farther north so I could enjoy more of that crisp air and warm sun, you really hit is just right! I find we spend more time outside at this time of year than at any other time...I'm a libra and my birthday in in october...maybe that has something to do with it too?
Funny, I did buy 8 towels, but the moment I brought them into the bathroom, everyone grabbed one to use right away...perhaps it wasn't such a boring purchase?
Have a great weekend!
