Today, I want to thank Soulemama and our mutual love of Amy Butler fabric and Heather Ross's Weekend Sewing 'yard sale wrap skirt' for bringing so many new readers my way! I am new to the world of blogging...actually, I've never even had a myspace or facebook account! I am of the generation that was taught how to use a sewing machine, but had to ask my 10 year old little brother (at the time) how to use Napster! I am a literal hybrid of my upbringing. My mother is an LCSW with a successful private practice. While she worked full time to support our family, my grandmother taught me so much about sewing, knitting, baking; needless to say, I have always had an appreciation for these things.
I live in a very nice area of Monmouth County, NJ where there are quite a few affluent families. Too often, I have seen and heard about many children (and adults) who have judged their worth and the worth of others by what they could afford to buy in a store. I didn't want this for my children or my family, so I have been doing things differently ("the hard way", as my husband likes to say!) This is how I came to start this blogg. There are many things that I am just learning how to do (luckily, I have my mother to help me with many of these things!) I hope that readers will continue stop by and perhaps be inspired to try something new, or post and offer their expertise.
I wanted to share a project that I had completed a while ago with this lovely Amy Butler fabric. My husband and I made our kitchen, I finished the cabinets, he built and tiled the counter top. We had left an empty space in this one section to serve as a home for extra stools that go around our island. For this project, I made two pannels, like you would cutains, then hung them with a curtain rod that we secured to the underside of the counter. I'm so happy with the way it came out! It added the personal touch and the burst of color that we needed. As it turned out, the stools are usually homeless, as my children have decided that this is an amazing hide out!
My blogg and the things I create are alot like me; imperfect, but also fun, courageous and full of love. I hope that there are some people who can relate to this. Hey, if you start a project and run into a jam, post about it! I've been there (how could I not be? silly rabbit, trying to do a project with two babes running around?) I have come to love reading and blogging with the many like minded souls that are out there; your companionship means as much to me as any other. I hope you will all continue to come by and post, I'll look foward to it!
Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
